A friend asked me to make a top 10 of anything I liked. I ended up making a list of the records that has seen most action on my turntable this summer.
Machetazo – Mundo Cripta
Machetazo are one of my favorite bands. Sadly they have just announced their disbanding.
They play classic Carcass-clone goregrind, and do it very well.
I have a soft spot for Carcass-clones, General Surgery, Haemorrhage, The County Medical Examiners and Impaled to name some of the best.

Sete Star Sept – Visceral Tavern
Such a gruesome scene. And while the zombies eat, Kiyasu and Kae spiller op til dans.
Side A is a lot of short noisegrindy tracks. Side B is… weird.

Pharmakon – Abandon
This lp is so menacing and ubekvem to listen to. It reminds me somewhat of Gnaw Their Tongues but is much more minimal and focused.
All four songs here are intense. As well as the cover which shows Pharmakon mastermind Margaret Chardiet’s body covered in maggots.

Bathory – Bathory
Aaaaargh. This is a sweet lp. From beginning to end, it oozes evil.
No Yellowgoat – but the crosseyed goat looks good in white too.
Darkthrone – Black Death and Beyond
Oh wow. I am really happy I bought this 3lp boxed monster. This is such a great collection of songs and the packaging is outstanding, Darkness Descends anyone?
I can never do this box justice, so I won’t try.

Joel Grind – The Yellowgoat Sessions
YES!!! Thrashy blackish metalpunk! This is Bathory worship when it’s done to perfection. Joel Grind should be a household name by now, due to his merits in Toxic Holocaust. Here he is alone and darker than ever.
I had the fortune to get my mucky claws on this lp in time, as prices are getting steadily higher.

Mayhem – De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is a monolith of dark, fuzzy and creeping evil. I remember my mate Kenneth corresponding with Euronymous, and my friend Karen sleeping a night in Helvete, being freaked out by a knife flashing and mumbling guy known as Greven – The Count.
I also remember thinking that they took things way too far in Norway. When the killings and the arson was rumoured here in Denmark, I turned my back on most black metal. I have always loved Venom and Bathory though, so the frost remained in my veins – I know: 100% vn-kvlt.
During the last 5-6 years however, I have been smitten by that horned bug, and have learned to enjoy Burzum, old (and new) Darkthrone and last but not least Mayhem. Which (witch (hahaha, diabolical laughter)) brings us to the record at hand. De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas. And here it is, all the murder, arson and right-wing madness I turned my back at all those years ago. And even if I still reject the values and beliefs expressed in this record, I must admit that it is a masterpiece. Unrelenting and driving forever forward as a bloodthirsty Lovecraftian beast.
So if you have the same skepticism towards black metal as I had, I urge you – give it a try. Who knows? You might get hooked…

Sore Throat – Unhindered By Talent
Three Seconds Long!!! This is the lp that really defined the micro-song as a valid and beautiful genre for me. The amount of noisy drunken fun on display here is overwhelming.
“Out of tunes guitars, with broken strings, unintelligable growls, and smashed drum sticks. Unhindered by talent, but we don’t give a fuck, if you don’t fucking like it, then tough fucking luck.”
There is so much spite and venom in the lyrics, I remember being a crusty peacepunk being shocked at the anger towards D.R.I. and other bands. I just wanted everybody to be happy…
The Molecatcher and A Bow To Capital makes for well deserved breathers in all the great feedbacky racket. Both unusual but great. I still need to know more about Pete Pax.
