Autopsy – Mental Funeral

34162533372_7756853b1b_o

I quite vividly remember when this lp was released. I already knew Autopsy’s first lp Severed Survival, and liked it. So it was with great enthusiasm I put this lp on my record player. I think it was my friend Morten Lose who bought it and brought it to my tiny flat in Hundegade in Ribe. So there we were, in a house built in 1588, listening to what seemed like a brand new form of death metal. I wasn’t prepared for a sound so filthy and uncompromising. The song Dead is still among my eternal favorites. The song structures are strange and twisted compared to the death metal that preceded it. This is for me still the ultimate soundtrack for a trip to the deepest pits of Hell. Dirty!! DIRTY!!!!

I have lost count of (never had it, really) how many times I’ve listened to this. But it wasn’t until 2003 I got around to buy it, so I could lay my dubbed cassette to rest. At that point I bought it on cd, but hooray! Today I finally got it on lp. And it’s an absolute pleasure to listen to.

Sedem Minút Strachu ‎– General Fucking (2017)

fil-02-02-2017-16-12-35

This is a record you want, if you are at all into noisy stuff. Sedem Minút Strachu – or Seven Minutes of Fear – is the shit for me these days.

This 12″ will no doubt be a classic of the genre.

Final Exit – Another (S)hits Of Old Vinyls (cd 2014)

Final Exit - Another (S)hits Of Old Vinyls

It’s all about Final Exit these days. I just got this cd in the mail today, 12 tracks of the Final Exit bits of various split releases. Very catchy and intense stuff here. Sound is brutal, and the playing too. And I mustn’t forget to mention the one minute long feedback that opens the cd. Goddammit I hate high notes, but here it has it’s place. Of the recordings here, I only knew the split with Gonkulator previously.

Super funny fast and noisy stuff here. Go get this baby! Yeah!

Final Exit – Middle Aged Stinking Cowboys 7″

Final Exit - Middle Aged Stinking Cowboys 7

Final Exit – Middle Aged Stinking Cowboys 7″

This is one of the best things that happened record wise last year. It’s just a 7″ record – single sided even, but crammed full of western themed noise and groovy country.

Final Exit are a great Japanese band, and after stumbling over this on my facebook stream, I have hunted down some other goodies from them. This record is released on The Child With No Name and Fat Ass Records. I can only urge you to visit both labels’ sites, as there are multiple goodies there!

Wadge – The End of Ethnology (cd 2016)

image1-7

My relationship with Wadge goes back about 10-12 years, I was (and am) very much into drum-machine-driven grindcore, and as you might be aware, Wadge is exactly that.

At one point, I contacted Wadge via their MySpace, and was very excited to actually get an answer from Paul Wadge. We agreed to make a split between Wadge and my band Kusari Gama Kill, and Jay Randall of Agoraphobic Nosebleed fame agreed to release it on a new label he was planning, namely Grindcore Karaoke. The split was never made, but Paul and I kept in touch. He is a very nice man, and I still hope to shake hands with him one day.

Wadge has had a Tiki-theme going on for quite some time now, and it has been good fun, and great grind. But on this new album called The End of Ethnology, and is 100% Tiki-Free. As the liner notes go:

“This album is for those who value the ability to freely speak your mind over the modern worry of tiptoeing through the misguided muck of feelings. The anti-fascists have become the fascists. Modern day witch hunters trampling through life with stakes in their eyes. Redefining language and soothsaying thought. No one is immune from their delusional social arson, but only you can decide whether or not you burn. Stop, drop and roll, motherfuckers.

This album is for our comrades around the world. Oceans and miles separate us, but the affinity for this wretched filth keeps us close.”

Important words.

Musically this is Wadge in top-shape. The songs are lean and hungry snippets of grind. I love the production too, the best sounding Wadge record I know of.

I urge you to acquire this slap of plastic before it is sold out. Mortville has released it, and you can get it at the link below.

All there’s left to say, is: Take it sleazy, all the breast.

Iron Maiden – Iron Maiden

image1

Oh how I love this lp. It came out when I was 9 years old, and I had no clue… But when I got turned to on to heavy metal in 1984, Iron Maiden was the very first band I openly admitted to liking (I secretly liked Destruction earlier, but only accepted myself as being a heavy freak after listen to Iron Maiden’s Flash of the Blade from Powerslave in late ’84).

Much debate has gone on through the years about who is the better singer for Iron Maiden – Paul Di’Anno or Bruce Dickinson, I personally have no grudge against either.

I hope you’ll enjoy this, as much as I do.

Low Threat Profile – Low Threat Profile (x 3)

IMG_0542

What we are dealing with here, is three releases (one 12″ and two 7″‘s) by a so-called powerviolence dream team. Features Andy from No Comment, Matt from Infest and Bob from Lack of Interest.

They have released the above mentioned three records so far, and they are all of very high standard. As you can see the records have very similar layout, and the records’ sides are continuously numbered 1-6 as you can see on the photo below.

I’ll stand back, and let the music speak for itself…

Tribulation – The Children Of The Night

IMG_9767

I first learned of Tribulation after reading a review of their 2008 album The Horror. I bough it, and loved it. The thrashy death metal on that lp is fresh and invigorating. Listening to The Horror while writing this review, I am surprised to find that I can recognize many details in it, that reminds me of The Children Of The Night. But still, The Horror is quite straight forward.

The Children of The Night is anything but straight forward. Laddies and gentlemen. We might have the beginning of the future of metal here.

There, I said it!!

The Children Of The Night is a fantastic lp. I have listened to it quite a lot since its release, and haven’t really begun to fathom its depths yet. But smack my arse and call me Charlie! This is some good music, that transcends genres and rules. I taste Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Morbid Angel, Entombed, Ulver and so many other influences. I’ll be surprised if this lp oesn’t end up on top of many a Best of 2015-list.

Did I mention that it is a double vinyl with music on three sides, and a cool etching on side 4?

I might return with a better review – maybe even a track by track – later. For now, I’ll just engulf my self in the musical bliss that is The Children Of The Night!
